Solid Day
IBM Soars, DPZ Crushed
Today’s market was just a good, old-fashioned day without any major moves in the indexes, no earth-shattering tweets or end of days prognostications. I didn’t have any power, cable or phone last night so besides not putting out my Daily Note or closing comment, I missed the big debate. Judging by the reports I heard today, all I missed was the fly on Pence’s head! The DJIA was +122.06 (.43%), NASDAQ +56.38 (.50%), S&P 500 +27.38 (.80%), the Russell was the big winner again +17.51 (1.09%) and the Transports +72.54 (.62%) and a new all-time high! The internals were good with NYSE 3:1 and NASDAQ 2:1 positive and all I can say is that it was very a very “Goldilocks” kind of day.
Looking at adding NEM and GLD calls, and a reentry into CVS and UNG calls probably...

SECTORS: There was good news for holders of Eaton Vance (EV) being taken over by Morgan Stanley (MS) for about $7 billion in cash and stock. MS was -2.20 premarket but right after the open it started back up and finished $49.35 +.64, and since it included stock, the rise sent EV higher to close $60.78 +19.84 (48.4%). IBM also had news that sent it higher. They gave guidance and then announced that they are going to split the company up and make the pieces “pure plays” in an effort to get a better valuation for the parts. It looked great pre-market but by the open it had given up about 1/3 of the gains and finished the day up $7.42 (6%) after the early market up 12%. Same situation with REGN, trading up to $618 or so +$26, but the stock never made it there when the real market opened…and then traded back to $598 and closed $599.70 +8.00, near the lows, but still ahead 1.24%. On the downside, the DISASTER DU JOUR, was a name that I wrote about last week, WWR, Westwater Resources, which went from $1.52 to $14.50 on news that Mr. Trump had signed an executive order relating to securing “rare earth” and critical minerals last week. As I mentioned, the stock took off from under $2 to $14.50 in 4 days and then reversed and finished the day $7.46 -4.26 (36%).

Round up of Cryptocurrency News #10 Week 28/09 - 4/10

Hello and sorry all its been about a month since serious post. So what has happened this week? 1. Kucoin exchange was hacked for over $150 Million in Bitcoin. Bitfinex and Tether freezes $33 Million of stolen funds. Over this past week we have seen many cryptocurrencies on the exchange be released from the freeze. However, users are still waiting on the main cryptos to be released as KuCoin is working on their security of their platform to make sure it does not happen again. The hacker itself tried to dump his tokens over Binance... Good try lol https://news.bitcoin.com/kucoin-hack-17m-laundered-via-decentralized-exchanges-blockchain-analysis-firm-claims-this-can-still-be-traced/ (HOLY MOLY) https://news.bitcoin.com/kucoin-ceo-says-exchange-hack-suspects-found-204-million-recovered/ 2. Bitcoin outperforms Gold, Nasdaq, 10 year treasury and S&P 500. not surprising at all for us but still very interesting, Bitcoin is up 48% since the start of the year. It appears more people are becoming interested in cryptocurrency as Bitcoin continues to be the best performing asset not just in the past 10 years but of all time. On a more personal note, I was at a small gathering today (within covid restrictions) and I was just saying how i was really interested in cryptocurrency. For the first time ever everyone around me was really interested in what it was and how it worked also talked to a lot of my stock market friends and almost all have pulled out or thinking of pulling out. related: https://dailyhodl.com/2020/10/01/report-details-unprecedented-levels-of-wall-street-interest-in-bitcoin-and-cryptocurrency/ https://dailyhodl.com/2020/10/02/former-goldman-institutional-trader-says-large-investors-now-buying-bitcoin-and-gold-at-same-pace-heres-why/ 3. CBDC news - US federal reserve is actively working on the a digital dollar. From a previous post we know that the European Union is working on a Digital Euro and China is working on their own digital dollar. For me this is a bit of a worrying issue and seems like an upgrade for their own outdated systems completely removing the idea of decentralisation. In addition to this, I find it interesting that in Australia all cryptocurrency tax laws were written in late 2017/2018 and continues to be adapted. In Russia their are harsh penalties for unreported cryptocurrency holdings. In my controversial view I think the technology of blockchain can actually be used to recreate and rewrite a much better future through its innate abilities. we can avoid things like this: https://news.bitcoin.com/jpmorgan-fraud-billion-dollar-settlement/ 4. Highlights on cryptojacking - if you dont know what this is it is when a script or code runs on a computer to mine cryptocurrency using your computer resources. You can block these using other programs or scripts and being safe over the internet. 5. World economic forum names XRP as crypto asset most relevant in central bank digital currency space. Many partnerships in the space plus flare coming later. https://dailyhodl.com/2020/09/30/ripple-matchmaking-effort-discovered-featuring-170-financial-institutions-is-xrp-front-and-cente i definitely have a love hate relationship with XRP. 6. https://dailyhodl.com/2020/09/28/defi-movement-shatters-11000000000-in-total-crypto-assets-locked/ https://news.bitcoin.com/uniswap-captures-2-billion-locked-dex-volume-outpaces-second-largest-centralized-exchange/ 7. https://www.ey.com/en_au/blockchain/blockchain-platforms 8. https://dailyhodl.com/2020/09/29/twitter-ceo-jack-dorsey-says-bitcoin-and-blockchain-will-fuel-financial-freedom-and-transform-future-of-content-delivery/ 9. https://news.bitcoin.com/easily-spend-your-bitcoin-via-prepaid-debit-card-or-a-paypal-account-with-bitcoin-of-americas-easy-to-use-trading-platform/ 10. https://news.bitcoin.com/bitcoin-com-exchange-to-list-aspire-and-aspire-gas-as-newest-digital-asset-creation-platform-comes-to-market/ 11. https://news.bitcoin.com/onecoin-victims-petition-establishment-european-crypto-fraud-compensation-fund/ 12. https://news.bitcoin.com/atari-announces-ieo-collaboration-and-listing-of-the-atari-token-with-bitcoin-com-exchange/ Atari also partners with Cryptocurrency project ULTRA. Seems like everyone is bullish on bitcoin and leading crypto projects to make big gains over the next year, sooner rather than later. Bitcoin also holds above $10.5K with over 1Million wallets. Bitcoin interest is gaining throughout the world as many parts are hit by economic crisis.

Battery Day

For Trading September 23RD
NASDAQ BEST PERFORMER, AGAIN!
BATTERY DAY
NKE, KBH, & SFIX REPORT
Today’s market started off slowly and spent most of the day wavering between up and down until the final hour and managed to make a new high and have a solid close. NASDAQ was the clear strength finishing up 3 times the DJIA at +184.84 (1.71%), DJIA +140.48 (.52%), S&P 500 +34.51 (1.05), the Russell +11.71 (.79%) and the DJ Transports +85.50 (.77%). Market internals were split with NYSE 4:3 up, but even though the NASDAQ showed a major gain, the split was 1:1. Volume was slightly lower than Monday. Sales of existing homes were +2.4% and while pricing was strong, the lack of supply continues to be well below demand. This actually skews the numbers lower than if there were more for buyers to purchase.
Our “open forum” on Discord, which allows me to interact with subscribers and others to allow direct questions and chart opinions on just about any stock, continues to grow with more participants every day. SECTORS: The most “hyped” news of the day was the Tesla “Battery Day,” on the schedule seemingly forever, and the hype got so bad that even Elon Musk had to make statements yesterday trying to calm it a bit. The stock was lower all day finishing regular hours $424.23 -25.16, and after the close it rallied back to down just $14. However, I waited to do tonight’s note until there was some further action on the “show” and surprisingly, the stock has traded lower, trading $394 with a last of $406 right now (7:00pm). We’ll have to see it in the morning since it could be $375, or $425 again. Earnings from a couple of big names came after the close. Nike (NKE) beat numbers both top and bottom lines and also managed to cut S, G, & A and spent less on advertising since there were no sports on TV for the quarter and it clearly showed! The stock had closed $116.87 +3.50 (3.09%) but once the conference call was on it exploded higher trading $128 when I did tonight’s closing comment, but it has continued higher trading $134 and having a last trade now (7:15) of $131.75 +18.38 (16.12%). KB Homes also beat and was $40.50 +1.57 at the close and traded up to $43.65 and is currently $40.00 1.07. SFIX was not so great as it beat on revenues and missed on earnings. It had closed $31.38 +2.32 (7.98%) and had traded $34.00 before the call and then fell hard to $$25.90 and the last was $26.40 -2.66 (9.15%). Pretty ugly call, I guess! And the disaster du jour was a little bio named Vaccinex (VCNX) who had a negative result on a trial for Huntington’s disease. The stock had a high $12.23 in January and a recent low of $3.22 in July and closed $5.47 and opened today $2.30 and finished the day $2.24 -3.23 (59%). I hate when that happens! New Group: Air & Cruise Lines: were HIGHER with CCL +.01, RCL +1.56, NCHL +.34, AAL +.17, DAL +.36, LUV +.45, UAL +.25, HA +.08, ALK +.16, JBLU +.24, and XTN $58.35 +.16 (.27%).

Q3

For Trading October 1st
Welcome to Q3
Rally Continues
PLTR Prices @ $7.25 ASAN $21.00
Today’s market was looking pretty ugly on the overnight futures reaction to the debate, but we had a deluge of positive data coming from ADP, Case Schiller, Chicago PMI, another look at Q2 GDP and mortgage applications. We moved from -200 DJIA to +100 in the last 20 minutes leading up to the open and it only got better from there. We had the Treasury Secretary from the Seeking Alpha virtual meeting talking about his conversations with Speaker Pelosi and gave some hopeful words, which added gas to the fire, and we were headed to +550 on the DJIA with the rest of the market following. When the dust settled we finished with the DJIA +329.04 (1.2%), NASDAQ +82.26 (.74%), S&P 500 +27.53 (.83%), the Russell +2.97 (.20%) and the DJ Transports the only one lower at -71.79 (.63%). Market internals were unimpressive although volume was about 30% higher but that was likely the effect of the end of the quarter. There were only 2 DJIA lower (DIS & NKE) while the biggest gainers were AXP, UNH, AMGN, GS, & HD.
Our “open forum” on Discord, which allows you to interact with subscribers and others to allow direct questions and chart opinions on just about any stock, continues to grow with more participants every day. It is informative and allows me to share insights as the market is open and moving. The link is: https://discord.gg/ATvC7YZ and I will be there and active from before the open and all day. It’s a great place to share ideas and gain some insights, and we’ve grown to almost 3000 members.
I also returned to my radio show today with a great live interview with the Chief Medical Officer of JANONE (JAN) and it was a great show. SECTORS: There wasn’t a lot of sector news, but we did have some news from DIS after the close laying off 28,000 employees at the “parks” division with full time, part time, as well as executives. The stock finished today $124.00, better than last night’s reaction but still lower by $1.40 (1.12%). Micron (MU) was sold off even though they beat top and bottom lines but sellers took control and after it traded up to $52.67 on the headline, it spent the day today selling off and closed on the lows at $46.90 -3.81 (7.51%). This is why I always try to NOT trade earnings reports. This is a prime example of being right on the numbers and having it cost you money.
Becton Dickenson reported positive results on their “antigen-based test’ and was higher, closing $233.71 +8.28 (3.67%). Moderna (MRNA) was also higher during the day with a high of $75.39 but finished $70.75 +.23 (.33%). PLL who signed a 5-year agreement with TESLA for an element used in batteries that had traded $54.50 and since closing $37 +26 has had a couple of weaker days finishing the day today $23.69 -1.69 (6.66%) but still well up from $11.00.

OIL, $40.22 +.93, Oil was in a fairly tight range all day. After the oil sold off yesterday it had an “inside day” today, so no real hint to which way it is going out of this consolidation. The stocks were MIXED with XLE $30.03 -.01 (.03%).
GOLD $1,895.50 – 7.70, opened HIGHER and made a slightly higher high and a higher low, closing mid-range but down on the day. There were several “unusual options action” looking for another 10-12% on the upside before year end. We sold the balance of the 3X silver ETF calls at $2.10.

After breaking out over $10,000 we have had a “running correction” pushing prices toward $12,000, reaching a recovery high of $12220 Thursday, and after a day of rest in between, we resumed the rally touching $12,635, but have sold off back to support. We had 750 shares of GBTC and sold off 250 last week at $13.93 and still have 500 with a cost of $8.45. GBTC closed $11.01 -.02 today.

SuperCom deals its products across the world in countries such as the USA, Canada, Sweden, Denmark, Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Estonia, China, Latvia, and more. What is eye opening about this opportunity is the recent government contracts (2), and its new project with a California Central Valley county to provide employment and anger management services, valued at up to $3.8 million. The project delivers services to adults with a focus on workforce services, employment readiness, and anger management to reduce recidivism. Keep in mind this company also has a tie in with elections, and an earnings report coming up that should include all the recent government contracts. The cybersecurity element is huge in an environment where it’s needed more now than ever. With a combination of good PR, a low market cap and excellent contracts in an environment where it will succeed most, this ticker is highly recommended before earnings. They also have a payment system which is set up for bitcoin transactions, something to look into with a bitcoin boom going on.

Profit Taking Tuesday

For Trading September 9th
PROFIT TAKING CONTINUES!
TSLA BIGGEST DECLINE
Today’s market started with the news that Mr. Trump got up early in order to continue to poke the Chinese Bear (they borrowed one from Putin, the thug) on the possibility that we would ban cotton imports and possibly blacklist another of their chip makers. Probably not going to get any traction, but you have to think that as well as AAPL and TSLA have navigated the issues surrounding their business in China, it could easily be put in jeopardy at any time. So, between that item, and the fact that the “BIG 6” wasn’t quite finished working off the run that it seems Softbank got started over the last month or so, we followed the leaders lower, rallied a bit until 3:00 and then sold off to make a new low and close -632.42 (2.25%), NASDAQ -465.45 (4.11%), S&P 500 -95.12 (2.78%), the Russell -30.71 (2%), and the best performer, DJ Transports -145 (1.29%). Market internals were soft with NYSE 3:1 lower with 3:1 down volume while NASDAQ was just over 2:1 lower. The DJIA was 26:4 lower with the biggest losers CRM -89, BA-66, GS & AAPL -56, and the biggest gainer was DIS +14 DP’s.

LULU posted solid earning growth and a beat on both earnings and revenues, but it just wasn’t enough as the stock which closed $349.80 -11.61 but then fell to $324 and is currently $329.50 -31.91 (8.83%). We also had a beat on both top and bottom lines at SLACK (WORK) but it too was short on guidance and “billings” and they took it out and shot it. It had closed $29.32 +.25 but fell as low as $23.27 and is now $23.85 -5.21 (18%).
FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN was LOWER with TSN -.85, BGS -1.89, FLO -.52, CPB -2.36, CAG -1.98, MDLZ -1.87, KHC -1.87, CALM -.03, JJSF -2.33, SAFM -1.26, HRL -.83, SJM -3.40, PPC -.23, KR -.83 and PBJ $33.06 -.95 (2.78%).

OIL, $36.76 – 3.01. Oil was lower in today’s trading and drifted lower all day. I am looking for about another $1.00 or so before I would consider buying it for a bounce. Nat Gas was - $ .19 to $2.40 and closed a gap left on the upside that occurred when we were long last month, and I am looking at UNG (NG ETF) as a proxy to get long.
GOLD $1,943.20 +8.90, sold off early but didn’t break below the $1905 area I am using as support. It turned back and rallied and closed right near the highs. I did a short update video today: https://youtu.be/KJgk-wmVJ4U I am still a bull on the metal, and we have a September bull call spread on using NEM 65/70 calls with a cost of $1.45, which closed today @ $1.91, and we also added some October 70’s at $1.65 which closed $2.08.

SNOWFLAKE SURPRISE
FED DAY LETDOWN
Today’s market started off with another rally and at the highs we were +369 on the DJIA, but as Chairman Powell was talking at his press conference we started to fade and we had a downdraft to +130, and in the last 15 minutes we had another one taking us to just above unchanged to finish within pennies of the low +36.78 (.13%). NASDAQ was -139.85 (1.25%), S&P 500 -15.71 (.46%), the Russell +14.17 (.92%) and the DJ Transports +78.18 (.68%) and made a new all-time high at 11,690.82. Market internals were generally healthy with NYSE 1.6:1 and NASDAQ just slightly lower at 1.5:1, with a 20% increase in volume. The DJIA was split 15:15 with only HD, HD, and AAPL 25DP losers and BA +26, the only gainer of $26 DP’s.

SECTORS: We started off the day with Retail sales +.6%, a slight disappointment, although the retail sector was mixed to higher. UAA was a big winner on the back of a new line of women’s basketball shoes and finished the day $12.29 +.63 (5.4%). Whatever it was, the stock closed near its low for the day at $263.52 -8.90 (3.3%). GE gave guidance for cash-flow positive during this 2nd half and the market liked it, sending it up 10.7% at $6.75 +.65. There were two IPOs today for cloud-based software. Today’s market got off to a very soft start in the DJIA but not so much in the NASDAQ and S&P-500, with the DJIA starting off -240 and managing a rally only as far as -125 before spending several hours going sideways until the last hour of trading when the NASDAQ and S&P ran out of steam and fell below the close and the selloff resumed. It’s never a good thing when and overbought index makes a new all-time high and then closes down and on the lows. The DJIA was -396.85 (1.51%), NASDAQ -89.76 (.86%), S&P 500 -34.30 (1.08%), the Russell -26.89 (1.86%) and the DJ Transports -108 (1.1%). The internals were 3:1 down on NYSE and 2.5:1 on NASDAQ with volume on the NYSE 2:1 down also. The DJIA was 28 down and only 2 up with WMT the big gainer +55 DP’s and on the downside, BA-62, GS -55, and UNH -43DP’s. Even with the good JOLTs number, this market is just over-extended and tired. The stat I mentioned in tonight’s video about the S&P is very telling, I think, with the S&P only 2% off its high, the median S&P stock is down 11%. This market has simply gotten too narrow and it will correct.
We sold half of the remaining NEM 7/17 $60’s bought @ 1.55 and added to last Friday @ $1.30 for an average of $1.47 triggered a 100% Up Rule sale at $2.94, and today’s sale was @ $3.20. They closed today $3.20. We also own a position in SLV 8/21 17 calls @ $ .74, and they closed $ .75, and we also added a spread using the NEM 8/65 / 70 calls at a $1.30 debit.

SECTORS: The FAANG names all finished near the lows, several like MSFT coming off a new all-time high and closing down on the day. Not a good sign if they follow-thru to the downside tomorrow. Also having trouble was CCL, who has had to cancel several cruises for Q4 and Q1 2021. It closed $14.57 -1.04 (6.7%). Add to that, the UAL report that it is giving warnings that it will be laying off “10’2 of thousands of employees.” UAL finished $32.55 -2.66 (7.55%). These two companies do not operate in a vacuum, so both groups are in jeopardy, again. Novavax (NVAX) got a $1.6billion grant from BARDA (Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority) to help it along in it’s search for a workable vaccine. The stock, up from $8 as late as the end of February had worked its way up to $85 last month and opened today $104 and traded as high as $111.77 and finished $104.56 +25.12 (31.63%). Don’t get too crazy with this one, this is not its first rodeo. In 2015 it was trading $300 before it had a failure on a different vaccine and the stock fell to $80 before a rally and then in the week of 9/16/2016 it fell further from $169.80 to $23.20 and then on to the adjusted (1:20 reverse) low around $4.00. We’ll hope for a better outcome this time around. Walmart was the big winner on a RECODE that said they are ready to launch Walmart +, to compete with Amazon Prime for same day grocery delivery and next day for other products. Its move today added 55 DP’s to the averages. I don’t think it’s a big deal since for the same money, with Prime you get streaming too. And the margins on groceries are razor thin.

OIL, $40.62 -.01. Oil was lower in last night’s trading before we rallied in the morning. I mentioned in last night’s charts with comments section in the Weekly Strategies letter, prices are trying to work higher towards $45.00. We needed a close over the previous high close of $40.83 and while we were there, we sold off to close below that number. The stocks were higher with XLE $36.26 -1.19 (3.18%).
GOLD $1,809.80 +16.40. It was a continuation rally and a new recovery high OF $1807.70 Last night I said “we’ve moved $50 since the low on Friday and while the trend and momentum are positive, we may have to test 1790 to consolidate our gains.” Unfortunately, we pulled back to 1,767 instead. We rallied a bit and finished only slightly better. We bought back the 3rd and final lot of NEM @ $58.86. And, we also added a half position in NEM 7/17 60 calls @ $1.55, and additional 50% @ $1.30 on Friday. We sold half on the 100% Up Rule @ $2.94 and half of what was left today @ $3.20, we closed $3.20 + .80 today.
BITCOIN: closed $9,290 -65. After trading back to 8985 we rallied back to close – only $5. Since last week we have closed between 9200 – 92.85 every day with narrow ranges and today was a good start to move higher. A break over 10,000 still sends us higher. We added 350 shares of GBTC @ $10.02 to our position of 400 @ $8.06, bringing our average price to $8.97. GBTC closed $9.76 - .19 today.

TIK TOK & ORCL
Today’s market started off with a rally and then just kept on going. There were several interesting stories, but no doubt that today was an up day with solid internals, including 5:1 up volume on the NYSE. The DJIA +327.69 (1.18%), NASDAQ +203.11 (1.87%), S&P 500 +42.57 (1.27%) and the biggest gainer, the Russell +39.70 (2.85%) and the DJ Transports +98.20(.87%). A/D on NYSE was 4:1 while NASDAQ was 3.6:1 and volume was moderate. DJIA was 5:1 up with no double-digit losers and the winners were UNH +47, BA +34, HD & V +28DPs. Nothing overwhelming, just a broad-based rally. Our “open forum” on Discord, which allows me to interact with subscribers and others to allow direct questions and chart opinions on just about any stock, continues to grow with more participants every day. This is the link to the audio recording including my discussion of the market and the very exciting story of JAN’s phenomenal NON-OPIOID Pain Med! SECTORS: We started off the day with the news that TIK TOK rejected the MSFT deal and was going to become “partners” with ORCL. It’s still somewhat up in the air as to what that actually means, but ORCL rallied on the news, closing $59.46 +2.46 (4.3%) after trading as high as $61.50. Stay tuned and I’m sure they will figure it out! Also in the news was the purchase of IMMU by GILD. While the deal gives GILD more of a portfolio of cancer therapies, the question of price paid and when they would actually make a meaningful contribution took a little off the celebration. IMMU was an $8.00 stock as recently as April and had already moved up to $42, and it closed today $83.65 +41.41 (98%). GILD is paying $88.00 or just 11 times the April price. DKNG and CZR were part of a new alliance with ESPN (DIS) as their official “Daily Fantasy Gaming” partners. DKNG finished $48.62 +7.16 (17%), and CZR was $55.39 +5.28 (10.5%). Lennar (LEN) had blow-out earnings but the stock, up from the March low of $25 to close $79 managed a small rally to $80.50 before reversing and closing $75.85 -1.63. NKLA has had some awfully bad press lately but it rallied today. After falling from $54.56 last Tuesday to close out the week $32.13 -3.42 it was trading$35.79 +3.66 before the headline that the SEC was looking into the allegations made by both Hindenburg Capital and Citron, that they had misled investors in their promotional offerings. The stock fell to $31.50 and finished $32.88 + .75. More news to come. And last, NVDA is buying ARM Holdings from Softbank and both stocks rallied. NVDA finished the day $514.89 +28.31 (5.8%) and SFTBY closed $29.69 +2.19 (8%).
FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN was HIGHER with TSN +1.53, BGS +.83, FLO -.14, CPB +.32, CAG +.12, MDLZ +.36, KHC +.16, CALM +.26, JJSF +1.25, SAFM +4.08, HRL +.39, SJM +.15, PPC +.53, KR -1.52, and PBJ $33.31 +.09 (.25%).

OIL, $37.26 -.07, Oil was quiet and drifted all day. I am looking for about another $1.00 or so before I would consider buying it for a bounce. The stocks were mixed with XLE $32.87 +.25 (.77%).
GOLD $1,963.70 + 15.80sold off early but didn’t break below the $1910 area I am using as support. It turned back and rallied and closed right near the highs. I did a short update video Wed: https://youtu.be/KJgk-wmVJ4U I am still a bull on the metal, and we have a September bull call spread on using NEM 65/70 calls with a cost of $1.45, which closed today @ $2.42.

GBTC closed $11.85 +.62 today.

Today’s market got off to a slightly higher start on the combination of CPI data and the futures, with all major indexes higher. The NASDAQ was the leader, by far, gaining almost the same point value as the DJIA on an index 60% smaller. At the close the DJIA was +289.93 (1.05%), NASDAQ +229.42 (2.13%), S&P 500 +46.66 (1.4%), the Russell +8.15 (.52%), and the DJ Transports +46.57 (.43%). Market internals were weak with the NYSE only 9:5 UP and the NASDAQ 9:7, and lower volume than yesterday. The DJIA was the same as yesterday, 23:7 but almost the entire gain was in 4 names, AAPL +100DP’s, HD & UNH +46 each, and MSFT +40DP’s while on the downside we had BA-32 and AXP -10DP’s.
Our “open forum” on Discord, which allows me to interact with subscribers and others to allow direct questions and chart opinions on just about any stock, continues to grow with more participants every day. It’s a great place to share ideas and gain some insights, and we’ve grown to almost 3000 members. I also did this video over the weekend on a day-trade, (actually 2) that I made in AAPL on Friday. I think it’s highly informative as a guide to under what conditions these kind of trades in expiring options make sense. The link is https://youtu.be/qIV0G-hP3aM Enjoy!!
Tonight’s closing comment video https://youtu.be/3T8DnUEKNaY SECTORS: We didn’t have much corporate news today but after the close we had earnings from both CSCO and LYFT with both reporting losses and giving poor guidance. LYFT in particular was just full of bad news telling shareholders that if the Court of Appeals did not strike down the State of California’s ruling that requires their drivers to be considered employees, that they would suspend all operations in Calif., 16% of their total rideshare business. The stock, already down from its high of $88.60 traded as low as $29.75 and is currently $30.10 -.42. Cisco (CSCO) reported a loss and gave poor guidance and this is the glaring difference between “Old” tech and “New” tech. While CSCO has fallen from an all-time high of $76, and a recent high of $58 to close today $48.10 + .91, it traded down to $44.77 and is $45.04 -3.05 or 6.34%. “New” tech stocks like AMD, NVDA, and AVGO are all at new all-time highs and up triple-digits this year. The biggest news of the late day was the announcement that TESLA (TSLA) declared a 5:1 stock split. While this is really just straight arithmetic, it does create some demand for the shares now, since when the stock split becomes effective at the end of August you would have 5 times the shares at 1/5 of the price. But it does promote the purchase of “round lots” as opposed to “odd lots.” Does it really increase demand? Not really, but most stocks (like AAPL) do seem to rise on the news. TSLA certainly did, closing $1,554,76 +180.37 (13.1%). FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN was HIGHER with TSN +.54, BGS +.53, FLO +.34, CPB +1.19, CAG +.75, MDLZ +.83, KHC +.72, CALM +.23, JJSF +.39, SAFM +.35, HRL +.62, SJM +2.25, PPC -.15, KR +.24, and PBJ $33.89 +.57 (1.69%).
BIOPHARMA was HIGHER with BIIB +3.28, ABBV +2.63, REGN +13.49, ISRG +8.09, GILD +.74, MYL -.34, TEVA -.03, VRTX +8.04, BHC -.23, INCY +1.24, ICPT +.86, LABU +.41, and IBB $134.45 +2.57 (1.95%). CANNABIS: was LOWER with TLRY -.03, CGC +.32, CRON +.20, GWPH -.80, ACB -.17, NBEV -.01, CURLF +.23, KERN -.16, and MJ $12.78 +.12 (.95%).
DEFENSE: was LOWER with LMT + .48, GD -3.60, TXT -.49, NOC -3.12, BWXT -.72, TDY +.23, RTX +.32, and ITA $170.92 -1.22 (.71%).

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THESE PRICES ARE LATE MARKET QUOTES AND DO NOT REPRESENT THE 4:00 CLOSES.
FINANCIALS were LOWER with GS +1.03, JPM -.82, BAC -.21, MS +.57, C -.41, PNC -.47, AIG -1.28, TRV -1.06, AXP -1.59, V +.93, and XLF $25.24 -.07 (.28%).
OIL, $42.67 +1.06. Oil was higher in last night’s trading before we rallied in the morning on news of production cutbacks from Iraq. The stocks were HIGHER with XLE $38.58 +.38 (.99%).
GOLD $1,949 +2.70 was a dramatic sell-off taking the gold down as low as $1,874.00 before a rally back to $1,961. While I like the gold down here, I will have to see how it trades for a day or two. I am still a bull on the metal.
BITCOIN: closed $11,665 +230. After breaking out over $10,000 we have had a “running correction” pushing prices toward $12,000, reaching a recovery high of $12220 yesterday. We had added 350 shares of GBTC @ $10.02 to our position of 400 @ $8.06, bringing our average price to $8.97, but sold 250 shares today @ $13.93. GBTC closed $13.11 +.56 today.

Today’s market got off to a positive start and rallied to the high of the day by noon and then spent the afternoon backing and filling and closed pretty close to the day +236.06 (.89%), NASDAQ +157.52 (1.47%), S&P 500 +23.49 (.72%), the Russell +26.38 (1.78%) and the Transports +16.91 (.17%). Market internals were positive with NYSE 9:5 and NASDAQ 2.5:1 higher with volume about average for this time of the summer. ISM data was strong with the manufacturing number 54.2, up from 53.4 estimate and 52.6 in June. All around, a pretty good day. AAPL & MSFT were the stars with AAPL +10.71 (2.5%) after its 10.5% rise on earnings last Friday and MSFT +11.53 (5.6%), but the Russell was the highlight and the biggest gainer. The only negative was that there is still no agreement on the next Coronavirus relief bill.

The DJIA was the same as yesterday, 23:7 but almost the entire gain was in 4 names, AAPL +100DP’s, HD & UNH +46 each, and MSFT +40DP’s while on the downside we had BA-32 and AXP -10DP’s.
Tonight’s closing comment video https://youtu.be/3T8DnUEKNaY
SECTORS: We didn’t have much corporate news today but after the close we had earnings from both CSCO and LYFT with both reporting losses and giving poor guidance.
RETAIL: was HIGHER with M +.02, JWN +.05, KSS +.19, DDS -1.69, WMT +1.65, TGT +2.88, TJX +.01, RL -.40, UAA -.08, LULU +9.38, TPR +.17, CPRI +.05, and XRT $51.06 +.40 (.79%).
FAANG and Big Cap: were HIGHER with GOOGL +27.45, AMZN +77.33, AAPL +14.99, FB +3.87, NFLX +8.32, NVDA +22.82, MSFT +5.52, TSLA +190.61, BABA +6.78, BIDU +2.05, CMG +12.05, CAT -.37, BA -4.34, DIS +1.31, XLK $113.47 +2.09 (1.88%).

New Highs for NAZ & S&P-500
WORK FROM HOME FEATURED
Today’s market was a little soft after the early futures, but the ISM number came in at 56, up from an expected 54.5 (50 is the magic number) things got a lot better quickly. Even a miss in construction spending + .1% v. 1.0% didn’t seem to matter. Tomorrow we have ADP Employment, Factory orders, and the Fed Beige book. The gains continued to build and by day’s end the DJIA was +216.64 (.76, NASDAQ +164.21 (1.4%), S&P 500 +26.34 (.76%), the Russell +16.71 (1.07%), and the DJ Transports +131.34 (1.17%). Volume was unimpressive and market internals were 9:5 up on both exchanges. The DJIA was split 17 / 13 UP with the big winners WMT +57, CRM =56, AAPL +34, and CAT +25 DP’s and the only 2 down double-digits were AMGN -16 and JNJ -13 DP’s. Retail has a big day of reports tomorrow! Our “open forum” on Discord, which allows me to interact with subscribers and others to allow direct questions and chart opinions on just about any stock, continues to grow with more participants every day. This is the link to the audio recording including my discussion of the market and the very exciting story of JAN’s phenomenal NON-OPIOID Pain Med! Tonight’s closing comment video: https://youtu.be/25xcSJfcjt
SECTORS: We started the day with the news that Walmart was re-introducing their version of Amazon Prime called Walmart+. It’s $98 / year of $12.99/month and includes free shipping and same-day delivery of groceries over $35.00. Seems like an okay deal, although Prime includes Prime video and further discounts at Whole Foods and several other perks. The market loved it and the stock worked higher all day finally finishing $147.59 +8.74, a new all-time high (6.3%). ZM continued its major run trading as high as $478 before closing $457.69 +132.59 (41%). NFLX also got into the action finishing, $556.55 +26.00 (5.1%), and everyone who was looking for the next Zoom, settled on DOCU $268.80+45.80 (20%), Crowdstrike (CWRD) $143.69 +17.96 (14.28%), and Slack (WORK) $34.30 +1.46 (4.45%). The only loser in the group was TESLA, which after trading over $502, fell back for only the third red day in 3 weeks, finishing $481.49 -16.83 (3.38%) on the news that they were filing for up to $5 Billion in stock to be sold to the public. FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN was LOWER with TSN -.15, BGS -.61, FLO -.29, CPB -.99, CAG -.53, MDLZ -.14, KHC -.79, CALM +.15, JJSF -.53, SAFM +1.70, HRL -.29, SJM -2.22, PPC -.13, KR -.24 and PBJ $34.38 +.03 (.09%).

OIL, $42.76 + .15. Oil was higher in today’s trading before we fell to the middle of the day’s range. Some of the gains that were storm related were taken back without the shortages that generally occur during the hurricane season. The stocks were LOWER with XLE $35.41 -.24 (.67%).
GOLD $1,978.90 +.30, rose early in the session and moved higher to the 2,001 range before falling back to close midrange. I am still a bull on the metal, and we have a September bull call spread on using NEM 65/70 calls with a cost of $1.45, which closed today @ $2.33.
BITCOIN: closed $12,075 + 240. GBTC closed $13.85 + .32 today.
Just a quick mention about two commodity related trades discussed in last night’s Weekly Insights: Coffee continued higher again today closing $131.40 + 2.30 and the proxy for this is the coffee ETN: JO $39.35 +.08 (.20%). I also talked about Natural Gas being ready for a pullback, and after yesterday’s reversal it traded up to $2.675 before reversing back down and closing $2.527 - .103. It may not be done testing the gap it left near $2.40. Our proxy for this is UNG, which traded up to $14.04 before turning back down to close $13.58 -.56 and closer to the lows.
Tomorrow is another day.

More New Highs for NAZ & S&P-500
DURABLE ORDERS +11.2%
Today’s market was interesting in that the DJIA futures, S&P, and NASDAQ were unchanged, and shortly after the open everything went wild! By the end of the day we had several large-cap names that were up double-digit percentages. By the end of the day the DJIA was +83.48 (.30%), NASDAQ +198.59 (1.73%), S&P 500 + 35.11 (1.02%), the Russell -11.02 (.70%) and the DJ Transports basically unchanged. Unfortunately, the internals did not come close to reflecting the gains with the NYSE 1.7:1 DOWN, and even the NASDAQ 1.4:1 lower also. NYSE volume was 9:7 lower also. This is really not what a market making new all-time highs everyday look like. The big number for the day was the astonishingly good growth in durable goods, expected to be +4.8% but came in at 11.2%. Even ex-defense was +9.9%. Capital spending was a gain of 1.9% and shipments rose 2.4%. Remember, these are just preliminary numbers and will change before they are finalized.
We wish those in the way of the hurricane the best of luck and safety! It is now looking like the worst storm since the 1850’s, with a storm surge that is being called “unsurvivable!”

SECTORS: The most amazing gainer today was NFLX, I think, since it was just an afterthought in a note by Citi Research touting ROKU with a rise in price objective of $180 this year and $200 for 2021. The stock finished the day $164.28 +16.51 (11.1%). NFLX, which has quietly fallen from $575 and bottomed around $467, had closed 490.58 yesterday and opened $492.40 and then proceeded to trade up to $549.04 and closed $547.53 +56.95 (11.61%). But that wasn’t it, with CRM trading up from the close yesterday on the earnings to $243.50 +27, opened today $251.50 and then traded up to $277.97 and closed the day $272.32 +56.27 (26.04%). Had it already been in the DJIA it would have added about $150 DP’s. Also, on the earnings front, DKS beat and gave good guidance and the stock traded up to $54.50 and closed $53.99 +7.32 (15.68%). BOX beat and gave good guidance too and after closing $19.29 +1.26 (7%) it moved up to 22.45 and finished $21 +1.71 for a gain of 16.2%). William Sonoma (WSM) went the other way even though it too beat, but after a run from the March low of $26.01, it had closed the day $98.96 +3.60 it traded down to $87.50 before finishing $93.00 -5.96 (5.6%). FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN was HIGHER with TSN +.37, BGS +.08, FLO -.14, CPB +.45, CAG -.24, MDLZ +.47, KHC +.01, CALM -.01, JJSF -2.87, SAFM +1.03, HRL -,64, SJM +1.25, PPC +.15, KR +.28, and PBJ $34.42 +.8 (.24%).
BIOPHARMA was MIXED with BIIB -1.17, ABBV +.29, REGN +1.50, ISRG +.49, GILD -.35, MYL +.28, TEVA +.13, VRTX -1.06, BHC +.32, INCY -1.56, ICPT -2.03, LABU -2.01, and IBB $132.82 -.23 (.17%).
CANNABIS: was LOWER with TLRY -.17, CGC -.35, CRON -.13, GWPH +.99, ACB -.15, NBEV -.03, CURLF -.48, KERN +.45, and MJ $12.34 -.13 (1.04%).

FAANG and Big Cap: were HIGHER with GOOGL +40.14, AMZN +76.51, AAPL +6.00, FB +22.28, NFLX +51.92, NVDA -.45, TSLA +118.66, BABA +4.80, BIDU +.70, CMG +2.45, BA -2.53, CAT +.32, DIS +2.51, and XLK $121.99 +2.43 (2.03%). +1.30 (1.09%). PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THESE PRICES ARE LATE MARKET QUOTES AND DO NOT REPRESENT THE 4:00 CLOSES.
FINANCIALS were LOWER with GS +1.00, JPM -1.34, BAC -.42, MS -.44, C -.76, PNC -1.00, AIG -.37, TRV -2.08, AXP -.90, V +2.48, and XLF $24.84 -.12 (.48%).
OIL, $43.39 +.04. Oil was higher in today’s trading before we fell to the middle of the day’s range. Some of the gains may be storm related, but gasoline is helping support prices. The stocks were LOWER with XLE $35.73 -.77 (2.11%).
GOLD $1,952.50 +29.40, rose early in the session and moved higher to the 1963 range. I am still a bull on the metal, and we have a September bull call spread on using NEM 65/70 calls with a cost of $1.45, which closed today @ $1.78 +.11.

XOM, PFE, & RTX DROPPED FROM DJIA
More New Highs for NAZ & S&P-500
TSLA TOPS $2,100!!
Today’s market was higher from the start and leveled off around +240 -250 until the last 45 minutes when it powered higher into the close finishing +378.13 (1.35%), NASDAQ +67.92 (.60%), S&P 500 34.12 (1%), The Russell +15.90 (1.03%), and the big winner the DJ Transports +208.17 (1.9%). Internals were positive at 2.5:1 NYSE and 1.4:1 on the NAZ with NYSE volume 5:1 UP ! The DJIA was 5:1 higher and this will be the last time that AAPL will affect the average at the rates of the past since it is price-weighted and AAPL will no be a $100 stock, not $500. The only big loser today was UNH falling $36 DP’s and the gainers BA +74, AAPL +41, and GS +33 DP’s.

Tonight’s closing comment video: https://youtu.be/eMCD4wjOVh4
SECTORS: While it isn’t necessarily my focus, it’s difficult to not key in on TESLA breaking $2,100 today, trading $2129 and then selling off to $1927 before turning back up to close $2014 -35.78 (1.75%). A week ago, someone in the Discord room asked what I thought, and I gave them an opinion that once we closed over $1,643 that we were headed directly to $2,000-2,100 on a straight shot. I really had a high degree of certainty but thought it would take more than 7 trading days to get to that range! The “possible” vaccine news this morning lit a fire under the airlines; AAL +1.28 (10.5%), DAL +2.53 (9.28%), LUV +2.22 (6.4%), and UAL +3.28 (9.9%). Next were the cruise lines with CCL +1.49 (10%), RCL +2.90 (4.7%), and NCHL +1.18 (7.6%). Personally, I don’t see these names holding up with DAL announcing that unless they get further financial assistance that they will have to fire an additional 1941 pilots. These guys just want us to foot the bill for their disgraceful actions when they could have been preparing for a downturn rather than just lined their own pockets and bought back stock. PaloAlto Networks beat both top and bottom lines but gave soft guidance on next quarters revenues and after closing $267.07 -2.26 it fell further to $254.68 -12.77 (4.7%). The big news on the DJIA is that Dow Jones is making 3 major changes. I could be wrong, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen more than one at a time, but here are the names: Salesforce (CRM) replaces XOM, Amgen (AMGN) replaces Pfizer (PFE), and Honeywell (HON) replaces Raytheon (RTX) which also includes UTX.
FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN was HIGHER with TSN +.67, BGS +.44, FLO +.23, CPB +.15, CAG +.44, MDLZ +.51, KHC +.67, CALM -.63, JJSF +3.45, SAFM +.01, HRL -.05, SJM +1.15, PPC +.38, KR +.15, and PBJ $34.31 +.15 (.44%).

OIL, $42.62 +.28. Oil was higher in today’s trading before we rose further in the afternoon closing up at the top end of the day’s range. The stocks were HIGHER across the board with XLE $37.02 +.99 (2.75%).
GOLD $1,939.20 -7.80, rose early in the session trading up thru the double tops at $1,963.10 to $1,970 before selling off and finishing near the lows. I am still a bull on the metal, and we have a September bull call spread on using NEM 65/70 calls with a cost of $1.45, which closed today @ $1.66.

Yet another Nasdaq High!

For Trading August 7th
FB +6.5% on ???
Continuing Claims Lower
Another New High for NASDAQ
Today’s market got off to a slightly lower start on futures and the influence of the European markets but quickly turned higher after the mega-caps came roaring back to add to gains of the last several weeks. The big question of why remains unanswered. They just ran up and while there was no new news, there are plenty excuses. Mr. Z’s market cap gained $46Billion. Market internals were no better than 1:1 on the NYSE and NASDAQ was actually 6:5 down, with volume just average for the summer months. DJIA was just barely positive at 16:14 up with only one standout, AAPL adding 105 DP’s to the average. BA was the only double-digit loser and only barely -15 DP’s. There really wasn’t much news from Washington unless you count Pelosi sniping at Republicans and McConnell trying to explain away his stubbornness.

SECTORS: There was plenty of earnings news around with numbers for BKNG, DDOG, Z, UBER and DBX, but I want to take a moment away from that to make myself clear on the continuing Airline Bailout. I am 100% AGAINST wasting yours and my money so that an industry that absolutely squandered the advantages gained in their expansion and record profitability during the past decade. They made flying a brutally painful and expensive adventure with fees for just about everything other than the lavatories. The Boards of Directors and CEO’s repurchased shares, elevating prices, and self-enriching themselves all at the cost of rainy-day funding, right-sizing their companies and doing anything that made sense to increase their longevity. Now they want to “save 100,000 jobs” that will have to be cut. Here’s a thought, NO WAY! How about an industry that supports millions of people and families that has been beaten down, not of their own stupidity…How about Retail? How many of you know people who no longer have a job in a retail store? What did they do to cause the problem? I’m guessing nothing but stand on their feet 40 hours a week to make sure you found whatever you came in looking for. This is a bailout that should absolutely NOT HAPPEN! They don’t deserve it, and in fact it would make little difference in the scheduling and availability of flights. If you’re foolish enough to be an equity holder in this business that has so badly treated the customers, you deserve to lose your stake. And in fact, I seriously doubt that it will save them anyway!

TESLA 5:1

For Trading August 12th
TSLA 5:1 SPLIT
GOLD / SILVER COLLAPSE
DJIA CLOSES 450 OFF HIGH
Today’s market got off to a slightly higher start on DJIA and S&P-500 but general weakness in the NASDAQ, again. By the end of the day the DJIA -104.53 (.38%) was well off its +363 high and the NASDAQ was the big loser -185.54 (1.69%). The S&P 500 was -26.78 (.80) after being withing a few dollars of a new high, the Russell -9.57 (.6%), and the only winner the DJ Transports +24.59 (.23%). Market internals were 1:1 on the NYSE but 1.5:1 down on the NASDAQ. Volume was slightly higher than average for an August day. The major feature of the day was the massive selloff in the precious metals. Gold was down $125/oz. at the low and finished $1946.30 -93.40 (6%) while the Silver was lower by $3.21 to $26.049 after hitting an intraday low of $24.48. The change at the close was 12%. I would assume that we would see some follow-thru tonight and tomorrow early, but I bought the NEM September $65 / 70 call spread for $1.45. This is basically the same trade I made last month on the August expo $60/65 spread @ $1.30 that we sold @ $3.20. We also had the TBT 9/18 15 calls @ $ .40 that we sold today half @ $ .68, and the second half @ $ .74 just before they fell back to $ .55. Not bad, with YTD now back to +34%.

Tonight’s closing comment video https://youtu.be/EvsCZy_K1sw SECTORS: We didn’t have much corporate news today but QCOM won an appeals court ruling on an anti-trust case and the stock ignored the selloff and finished the day $108.83 +2.47 (2.3%). That made it a standout as the rest of technology was hit hard again today. It was the 3rd day down for the NASDAQ since its new closing high at $11,108.07 last Thursday. TSLA certainly did, closing $1374 -44, and then on the news rallied to its current $1467.20, over $90 higher. FOOD SUPPLY CHAIN was LOWER with TSN +.82, BGS -.46, FLO +.20, CPB -.63, CAG -.49, MDLZ -.49, KHC -.16, CALM +.19, JJSF -.35, SAFM +2.10, HRL -.31, SJM -.84, PPC +.27, KR -.58, and PBJ #33.32 -.37 (1.13%).

OIL, $41.61 -.33. Oil was higher in last night’s trading before we rallied in the morning on news of production cutbacks from Iraq. The stocks were HIGHER with XLE $38.20 -.13 (.34%).
GOLD $1,946.30 -93.40, was a continuation rally and a new recovery high of $2,089.20, but we collapsed and fell as far as $1,919 -124 before coming back slightly. Tonight, we are currently trading lower again at $1,915.70 – 30.00. While I like the gold down here, I will have to wait and see how it acts overnight.
BITCOIN: closed $11,435 -580. GBTC closed $12.54 -1.15 today.

NASDAQ at Another New High!
U.S. DOLLAR CONTINUES TO WEAKEN
Today’s market was just another day dominated by a switchover to focus on the FAANG and mega-cap stocks. After a couple of quiet day the big guns took off again. The star was AAPL moving to a new all-time high at $345.61 and closed not much below that new mark. AMZN, with its new price target of $3,300 was also strong with a move to $2,626.43 before a late market close at $2614.50 +90.44. Unfortunately for those invested in the big 5 or 6, the rest of the market didn’t fare quite so well. DJIA -300.14 (1%), NASDAQ +29.01 (.30), S&P 500 -26.21 (.,78%), the Russell -29.84 (1.94%) and the DJ Transports -227 (2.2%). Volume was slightly above the recent average with the A/D on the downside with NYSE 3.5:1 and NASDAQ 2:1 lower. Unfortunately, the DJIA stocks were heavily stack in the loss column with only 2 higher and 28 down. The big gainer was AAPL +72 DP’s and the loser, BA -95.

SECTORS: The big news was no news initially with BA falling back off it’s after-market run as high as $240 before a lower open at $227 before falling back to $213.08 and a final trade @ $215.99 -14.51 and $25 off the overnight high. The two groups that were the biggest numbers were Airlines and Cruise lines. All the biggest winners for the last week or so were today’s losers. CCL $23.04 -1.87 (7.51%), RCL $69.91 -5.21 (6.94%), and NCLH $24.13 -2.73 (10.16%). And, last, were 2 big late movers. Immuron: (IMRN) an Australian biotech with what they characterized as a cure for HIV, closing $2.10 yesterday had the news about a major move forward with the FDA committee for discussion of a trial permit was trading as high as $10.00 premarket opened $9.97 before a runup to $28.99 before settling back to close $20.00 +17.9 (852%) and in afterhours back to $16.30, still a nice gain of $14.20 or still 700%. The other name was LAKE: Lakeland Ind., a maker of protective garments for use in treating COVID-19 patients that finished $16.20 +.45 before announcing that their production would continue for at least another 6 – 9 months, sending the stock back up to $24.97 before finishing $23.75 +7.55 (46.6%).
FOOD SUPPLY: was LOWER with TSN BGS -.95, FLO -.12, CAG -1.41, MDLZ -1.05, KHC -.83, CALM -.31, JJSF -6.30, SAFM -6.07, LANC -3.85, HRL -.13, SJM -2.73, PPC -.55 and PBJ $31.99 -.15 (.47%).

RETAIL was LOWER with M -.83 in late trading after raising $4.5billion in the bond market and rallying as high as $11.00 pre-open and then in real time could only make it to $10.46 before a $8.72 finish in after hours trading. JWN -2.33, KSS -2.17, DDS -2.62, WMT +.06, TGT -1.49, TJX -.82, RL -4.78, UAA -.51, LULU +1.38, TPR -1.25, CPRI -2.29, and XRT $44.23 -1.12 (2.47%).
FAANG and Big Cap: were HIGHER with GOOGL +6.96, AMZN +90.44, AAPL +11.94, FB +8.40, NFLX +15.51, NVDA +11.54, TSLA -12.93, BABA +1.80, BIDU -1.03, CMG -9.23, CAT -2.71, BA -14.51, DIS -2.88, and XLK $102.40 +.48 (.47%)>

OIL, $38.94 +.75. Oil has managed to trade $40.44 yesterday and fell back to the 5-day MA and closed there. We then traded as low as 37.07 today before reversing late in the day and closing higher. In fact, people came after every little depressed stock and many have moved several 100% in the past few days and they sold them just as hard today. The stocks were lower and XLE was $45.10 -1.76 (3.76%).
METALS, GOLD: $1,721.90 +16.80. After trading down to $1671 last week we had a bounce higher again today after testing the 1697 level. The action in the US$ is projecting higher prices for the metals, but it does not necessarily trade with the dollar on a day by day basis. Support is around Friday’s lows. We bought back the 3rd and final lot of NEM yesterday @ $58.86.
BITCOIN: closed $9,805 +25. After breaking down from just over 10,000 and trading as low as 8630 last Tuesday we have been clawing our way back toward 10,000. Last week we traded over $10500 but fell all the way back to the lows, but we’ve moved back toward $10,000. We added 350 shares of GBTC last Wednesday @ $10.02 to our position of 400 @ $8.06, bringing our average price to $8.97. GBTC closed $11.48 - .10 today.

STOCKS RUN-UP Oil Falls
False Hopes
Today was an amazing day! I don’t believe that the bottom has been made, and I don’t think that today was a day to be a buyer, but as my Closing Comments says, “I could not have been more wrong.” We cut through every area of supply that I pointed out in last night’s Weekly Strategies. Here is the closing comment for tonight: https://youtu.be/JHjU3KOAQR8 . My problem with today’s action is that while everyone wants to believe that this was the bottom, historically, it is without precedent. There are many problems that we will face that are not currently known. The earnings of the companies that have no idea how long consumers are not buying clothes at Macy’s or TJ Maxx, or restaurants, where it’s not like you can make up the business with people eating 2 meals at a time. The closure of the Airbus plant in Alabama, or American Airlines cutting their N.Y. flights from 271 /day down to 13 is just not something that can be quantified when it comes to the net effect to both the balance sheet and profits. But the DJIA was +1627.46 (7.73%), NASDAQ +540.16 (7.33%), S&P 500 +175.03 (7.03%), the Russell +86.72 (8.24%) and the DJ Transports +532.38 (7.29%). Market internals left a lot to be desired with the A/D solid at NYSE 9.5:1 and NASDAQ 5.5:1, but volume was anemic with NYSE 1.4 billion and the NASDAQ 3.8 billion. All 30 DJIA stocks were higher with BA leading the way +113.31 DP’s but no other triple digit winners. On the +11.37% gainer on 3/24 there were 10 triple-digit winners. The strongest groups were Information technology, financials and consumer discretionary, with only Consumer Staples weak.

SECTORS: We started with positive numbers from Europe on COVID-19 deaths and the first group pre-market were the some of the smaller biotech firms with Inovio Pharma (INO) started with a gap up and after trading over $8.80, never quite made it back in regular hours and closed $8.44 +.70 (9.04%), Immunomedics (IMMU) ended a trial for their breast cancer treatment because it’s efficacy was confirmed. The stock, which traded as high as $27.33 in 2018 had fallen to $8.80 last week opened the day at $20.09 but sold off a bit to close $18.78 +9.38 (99.79%). Also in the same group, CODX finished $10.31 +2.11 (25.73%) and VIR $36.70 +7.70 (26.55%). In another group, Wayfair beat both revenues and earnings and the home goods company, which traded down from $173 last year to a low of 21.70 on 3/19 gapped up to open $70.28 and closed $71.50 +20.87 (41.22%).

OIL, $26.08 -2.26. The explosive moves in Oil recently have been news driven and the cancellation of the OPEC meeting and the threat of tariffs from Mr. Trump have cut off the rally from the $20.00 level. Today’s decline had little to do with the Oil stocks as all were higher. CVX +5.40, XOM +1.40, OXY +.50, NBL +.49, MRO +.02, MPC +3.03 (15.10%), RIG +.05, APA +.62, BP +.28 and XLE $31.41 +1.58 (5.3%).
METALS, GOLD: $1,693.90 + 48.20. After the recent gains, Gold has failed to break through the highs around $1700 until today when it traded $1,715 before selling off a bit. Tonight, it has traded as high as $1742.00 and looks to be higher in the near future.
BITCOIN: closed $7,330 +530. After we traded in a short-range day followed by a $1,000 range on Friday BTC closed above $7,000 for the first time since it broke to the downside early last month. While I want to add the 350 sold just over a week ago, I want to wait and see some stabilization. We still own 400 GBTC with an average of $8.06. GBTC closed $7.95 + .47 today.

Another New High for NASDAQ
Today’s market got off to a positive start even though the ADP payroll number, expected to be +1 million jobs came in at a meager +167,000. This was before the good ISM numbers came in well above both expectations and last months number. By the end of the day the DJIA was +373.05 (1.39%), NASDAQ +57.24 (.52%), S&P 500 +21.26 (.64%), the Russell the big winner +29.02 (1.91%), and the DJ Transports +128.75 (1.28%). Market internals were a sold 2:1 on both NYSE and NASDAQ and NYSE volume was better at 3:1 up. Bond markets were slightly lower with the long end actually gaining a bit and steepening the yield curve. The U.S. Dollar index continues to fall and I will be working on an advisory for the Weekly Insights letter for ways to play the weak dollar using ETFs.
Our “open forum” on Discord, which allows me to interact with subscribers and others to allow direct questions and chart opinions on just about any stock, continues to grow with more participants every day. It is informative and allows me to share insights as the market is open and moving. The link is: https://discord.gg/ATvC7YZ and I will be there and active from before the open and all day. It’s a great place to share ideas and gain some insights, and we’ve grown to almost 3000 members. I also did this video over the weekend on a day-trade, (actually 2) that I made in AAPL on Friday. I think it’s highly informative as a guide to under what conditions these kind of trades in expiring options make sense. The link is https://youtu.be/qIV0G-hP3aM Enjoy!!

New NASDAQ High!
